Isolation Is Our Friend
Group
think can be a good thing. Group lessons
are
worthwhile, classroom work is good and congregations and gatherings are
sometimes necessary, however, the real work is done by yourself. Practice alone. Study alone.
Work alone, with intensity.
Do
you want to get really good ideas, or gain a skill you’ve never had
before? After tutoring, then head for
the practice room, or your room. Close
the door, eliminate distractions and then go to work.
Go
as slow as necessary, with forethought about each action, each touch, each
step. Once mastered, proceed up to an
acceptable speed for mastery and performance mode.
Isolation
is OK if you do it right.
And
doing it right means careful attention, one note, one step, one skill at a time
until you put it all together.
It’s
not rocket science, but it is developmental science.

Whatever Needs
Improving!
