If You’re Going to Learn

  

If you’re going to learn, you might as well learn from the best source available.  In today’s world, resources abound – the internet, YouTube, Wikipedia, libraries, colleges and universities.

I went to YouTube a year ago and found a clip of Joe Morello, drummer for the Dave Brubeck Quartet, playing Take Five.  I exclaimed out loud, “That’s where I learned my drumming style.”

In my day, all we had were LPs, and of course life performances.  I would slow down the record and listen to Joe play some of those drum licks over and over.  I did the same with Gene Krupa. 

What great role models. 

Whatever you do.  Whatever skill you wish to improve, find your inspiration and live with it for a while, till you make it your own.
