The
Greatest Growth and Improvement Secret
Austin
Kleon said this: “If you want to change
your life, change what you pay attention to.” It’s from his book Keep Going.
The
best of the best musicians do this. In
the secret of their practice rooms, they note the difficult passages, the
tricky fingers, the stumbles and flubs and flaws in their delivery and they
work on that one area. They pay
attention to what tricks them up.
So
do writers, artists, architects, speakers, teachers, thinkers. They deal with the hard places, the difficult
concepts and they master them. I didn’t
say “they agree with them”. They
understand the concept and they learn from it.
What
are you attempting to grow into? In what
skill are you seeking improvement. Pay
attention to it.
Basketball
players learn to master the free throw shot.
The pros pay attention to it.
They perform it in their sleep.
We
pay attention, and we just might get better at anything we attempt.
